Pierce draws on nearly three decades as General Counsel of Toyota Tsusho America to address board- and C-suite-level cybersecurity and privacy governance
NEW YORK, October 19, 2022 — Law & Forensics LLC today announces that Expert Consultant George A. Pierce presented at the 11th Annual Journal of Law & Cyber Warfare (JLCW) Cyber Warfare Symposium on October 19, 2022. Pierce delivered a session titled "Hear the General Counsel Perspective on Cybersecurity and Privacy," offering senior legal and security practitioners a firsthand account of how multinational corporations manage cybersecurity governance, regulatory compliance, and privacy obligations at the board and executive level. The JLCW Cyber Warfare Symposium is among the leading academic and practitioner forums on the legal dimensions of cybersecurity and cyber warfare, convening government officials, in-house counsel, law firm practitioners, academics, and technology experts annually to address the intersection of law and emerging cyber threats. Pierce spoke from a uniquely credentialed position: he spent 29 years at Toyota Tsusho America, Inc., rising to Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and Corporate Secretary. During his tenure he established the company's legal department, served continuously on its board of directors for 22 years, and — in collaboration with Law & Forensics — built the company's entire cybersecurity program from the ground up, including its first Cyber Security Incident Response Plan, its first Chief Information Security Officer appointment, and a comprehensive suite of tabletop training exercises. " George Pierce brings something most cybersecurity commentators cannot — nearly three decades of lived experience as the general counsel who actually built and operated a Fortune-level corporate security program," said Daniel Garrie, Co-Founder of Law & Forensics. "His perspective at the JLCW Symposium translates directly to the practical governance questions boards and executives face every day."
Pierce joined Law & Forensics as an Expert Consultant in 2024 and also serves as Special Counsel to Zeichner Ellman & Krause LLP, where he specializes in the firm's Litigation and Cyber Security Practices. He advises on complex litigation, corporate governance, labor and employment, international trade, regulatory compliance, supply chain cybersecurity, and internal investigations. In addition to his JLCW appearance, Pierce has spoken at the Practicing Law Institute, the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the International Section of the New York State Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association, the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York, and the Japan Society. He has also co-taught sessions in the Cyber Security Certificate Program at Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago-Kent College of Law, and presented at webinars and CLE programs sponsored by Thomson Reuters' West LegalEd Center.
