Topic: What Lawyers Must Know About Technology to Avoid Losing Clients or Their License

Details: This live CLE webinar covers the duties required of lawyers to meet their technical competency obligations. As technology develops, lawyers are increasingly expected to use technological solutions for cases. Law firms want to ensure that their teams are adequately equipped to meet these obligations. Not only must lawyers maintain a duty of competence, but their knowledge in technology should remain current and up to date. Law firms and their respective attorneys should be mindful of the relevant ethical obligations and understand the basics of technology such as computer hardware, data, and digital forensics.

The American Bar Association made a significant modification to its rules in 2012. It now requires attorneys to maintain the necessary knowledge and skills for one to keep informed of changes in the law and its practice, including the benefits and risks associated with relevant technology. This program will provide lawyers with the necessary rules and guidelines they should be aware as they continue to practice.

Topics that will be discussed:

  1. Ethical Obligations to Understand Technology
  2. Technology Competence Framework
  3. Understanding Computer Storage
  4. Digital Forensics

This program is presented by Thomson Reuters and the Global Cyber Institute.
Speakers for the event:
Jennifer Hoekstra of Alystock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz PLLC
