NEW YORK – Daniel Garrie, National Managing Partner of Law & Forensics and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Cyber Warfare, will be featured as a panelist at Chicago’s Business Law Section Annual Meeting Event on Saturday, September 19th, 2015. Mr. Garrie’s topic will examine the rise of the Cyber Criminal and provide answers to the most important questions a general counsel has.

Long-gone are the days when people relied on “paperwork,” to carry on their daily business. Today, the paperless world has come full circle and so have the criminals. Cybercrime is one of the greatest threats today with the power to disrupt any organization’s core business. It has become increasingly crucial for organization to understand how cyber criminals operate and the repercussions their companies face if they are not prepared to protect themselves.

With the growing use of social media and mobile devices in today’s workplace, and the expanding definition of the “workplace” to include anywhere, workers travel with their smart phones and other mobile devices, companies are being put at risk. Companies are exposed like never before to loss of reputation, scandal, employees behaving badly, company secrets being leaked, harassment and other damaging communications. At the same time, these new technologies are enormously powerful and, as a practical matter, are here to stay. Mr. Garrie will address the following questions: How Cyber Criminals work and the real threat they present to corporations; Techniques used to infiltrate networks and the life cycle of an attack; Evolving technology to protect your system to prevent an attack and an overview of how to mitigate damage after an attack occurs.
