When you buy a software solution for a problem – whether eDiscovery or database creation – you should be sure they use the software. The software company – the one that comes to sell you an eDiscovery archiving solution – should answer one question: “Do your in-house legal and records management teams use this eDiscovery archiving solution when managing archiving, records management, and eDiscovery issues internally?”
While this seems simple, you will be surprised to find that many in-house lawyers at eDiscovery vendors do not use their own software. This is a bad sign – a sign that says “Stay away from this software.”
If they won’t drink their own Koolaid why should you?
